NFL "1 in a Million" Plays (Rare/Lucky Plays)

Savage Brick Sports 2 years ago (edited) I need a new channel banner, someone please make me one For those who don't get the premise of this video, these are plays that would only happen "one in a million" times, "one in a million" is sort-of a figure of speech to mean something that is really rare or that wouldn't really happen again if you repeated it "a million times"

  • Herb Powell
Herb Powell 1 year ago (edited) The Skins got a measure of vengeance two years later, when they ruined Chicagos perfect season by winning their NFL Championship rematch. Oddly enough, the Giants had done the same thing six seasons before Chicagos 73-0 championship. Then again, maybe the shady way Chicago broke the inaugural championship games scoreless tie (not to mention winning a previous championship by scheduling extra games against amateur teams just to push their win percentage higher) makes that justice. That original NFL Championship Game was seminal though, because the brutal Chicago winter forced it inside to an undersized stadium, which in turn prompted the introduction of hashmarks and the goal line goalposts that remained until 1974. Perhaps most significantly, NFL rules at the time stated legal passes had to be thrown at least 5 full yards behind the line of scrimmage, and Bronko Nagurski was nowhere near that far back when he threw the games first TD, but the refs let it stand, and an offseason filled with Spartans protests ultimately ended by changing the rule to allow passes from anywhere behind the line. The 1940 Championship always makes me chuckle though, because I think of all the kids today insisting the run-first T-formation NFL was little better than a soccer league incapable of competing with todays "high scoring" passing attack. Yet when the T WAS the novelty, it set what has remained the all-time single game scoring record for 78 years and counting.

slayerbot 67 2 years ago Well they might have gone for a field goal for OT or a two point try that was good
  • stonecoldku
stonecoldku 2 years ago Sorry I'm not understanding what you mean here. The play that I am referring too was the Saints lateral play for a touchdown. That was the last play of regulation. They had to score a touchdown on that play to pull within one point (or the extra point) which they then had to make in order to SEND the game into OT. Yes, they could have possibly gambled on going for two to just win the game then and there, but the odds of making a extra point are higher. Unfortunately the kicker missed that extra point and they lost by 1 point. I just think it's ironic, unfortunate and kind of funny that they went to all of that effort in order to pull within one point and it ended up being pointless.

  • axie
axie 1 year ago That was the 3rd that he (John Carney) missed in his career. This started his inconsistency. Years later, the saints re-signed him. He was a good influence on Garrett Hartley. Carney held the kick that sent the saints to the super bowl. His only ring is with the saints. He ended up being in the top 10(5?) in scoring all-time.
  • pronkb000
pronkb000 1 year ago The game actually would have been worthless anyway. I forget who they needed help from, but they needed a team to lose later that day in order to get into the playoffs with a win. That team won, so even if Carney makes the PAT and even if they win in OT, their season was over.

  • Josh Parks
Josh Parks 2 years ago Savage Brick Sports There are many different ways a play can be spectacular. Even what appears to be a routine 5 yard run up the middle can be a special play if it enables a team to run out the clock. It is a great ride of emotions when your team seems to be out of it, then all the sudden snatches victory from the jaws of defeat. I appreciate the video. It does show some unique plays.
